Gov’t approves plans for special Wadi Rum administration

AMMAN — The government is in the process of forming a special committee to oversee Wadi Rum Reserve and enhance the development of the Kingdom’s “valley of the moon”, Ammon News reported. اضافة اعلان

During a meeting on Wednesday chaired by Acting Prime Minister Tawfiq Kreishan, the Cabinet approved the rationale for a draft regulation aimed at developing Wadi Rum, in preparation for sending it to the Legislation and Opinion Bureau to complete the required procedures for issuing it.

The project includes involves a buffer zone surrounding the Wadi Rum Reserve, after which the Wadi Rum region will consist of both the buffer zone and the reserve itself, with special provisions for both areas. The boundaries of the buffer zone are to be determined by the Council of Ministers.

In accordance with the draft regulation, a special committee consisting of a chairperson and six members will be formed to oversee the region.

A special administration will also be established within the organizational structure of the Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority (ASEZA), consisting of administrative, financial, and technical staff qualified to oversee the region.
