The campaign includes a series of awareness activities across the Kingdom’s governorates, aimed at simplifying licensing procedures and identifying challenges faced by owners of home-based food businesses.

Obaidat said the campaign is part of the administration’s awareness and guidance role, which extends beyond regulatory oversight to promoting awareness of and compliance with food safety requirements. She said this would support home-based food activities, enhance the safety and quality of their products, strengthen consumer confidence and contribute to the development of such businesses.

The campaign was launched during an awareness workshop titled “My Kitchen Is Licensed… My Food Is Safe,” attended by a number of women from local communities who run home-based food businesses. The workshop aimed to raise awareness of licensing requirements and promote approved health practices and standards for preparing, handling and trading food.

The workshop was accompanied by an exhibition showcasing products made by local women.

Obaidat said the administration is committed to strengthening its partnership with local communities as part of its responsibility to promote compliance with food safety requirements, ensuring the safety and quality of products and protecting consumer health.

She noted that home-based food businesses provide many women with an opportunity to turn their skills into productive and sustainable enterprises that contribute to economic and community activity.

Obaidat expressed appreciation for the efforts of local women and their role in supporting their families and communities. She also highlighted success stories achieved by women operating licensed home-based food businesses, saying they demonstrate the ability to turn skills into productive enterprises that support families and strengthen women’s participation in society.

Jordanian Women’s Union

For her part, Jordanian Women’s Union President Jalila Al-Samadi said Jordanian women have demonstrated their ability to produce and innovate and to turn limited resources into projects that provide genuine opportunities to improve household incomes.

Al-Samadi said many women’s associations have become important incubators for women seeking to develop and market their products and move from small-scale production toward more organized and sustainable businesses.

She added that the success and continuity of such projects require compliance with licensing requirements, health standards and applicable regulations. She stressed the importance of the administration’s role through awareness campaigns and technical guidance, which help business owners understand and meet the necessary requirements.

Awareness Sessions

The workshop’s second session featured several presentations moderated by Awareness Division Head Amani Haddad.

The sessions covered regulations governing the preparation and handling of food from home, presented by Mamoun Sayahine, as well as the role of the Greater Amman Municipality in empowering women, presented by Rasha Al-Shawarbeh.

The session also included a presentation on strengthening the safety of the agricultural products value chain and empowering women, delivered by Zainab Al-Hammad, and another on the safe use of packaging materials, delivered by Mohammad Bani Hani.

Another presentation addressed nutrition for people with celiac disease, delivered by Abida Al-Qaisi, along with a presentation by a specialized initiative.
