AMMAN — The Ministry of Health launched Tuesday a national campaign to raise awareness about diabetes under the slogan “Every delay is good, start right and control diabetes”. اضافة اعلان

The campaign entails publishing brochures on social media, awareness videos, TV and radio interviews with specialized doctors who provide advice on how to control the disease, and distribution of scientific publications and brochures containing tips and information about diabetes.

The ministry disseminated an awareness video on social media and issued a press statement in which it said that there has been a steady increase in the prevalence of diabetes in Jordan over the past 10 years.

According to nutritionist Emtithal Jarrar, “advertisements and images that encourage people to eat fast foods that are full of sugars and unhelpful starches” are largely responsible for the growing rates of diabetes.

Jarrar told Jordan News that “unfortunately, the affected person remains attached to unhealthy habits, which leads to the exacerbation of diabetes”.

To reduce the incidence of diabetes, or avoid getting the disease, more awareness campaigns should be conducted in a simplified way, easy to understand by people, she said.

It is also necessary to keep a healthy and balanced diet, she said.

The campaign is held in cooperation with the Jordanian Society of Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolic Diseases, the Jordanian Society for the Care of Diabetes, and the Sanofi company.
