Ali Mabkhout scored the UAE’s first, third and fourth goals, while Khalil Ibrahim scored the second, and Caio Canedo, the fifth. Odai Al-Saifi scored Jordan’s only goal.

The match was played behind closed doors as the two coaches said they preferred to keep competitors in the dark about their respective strategies.

Jordan’s technical coach, Vital Borkelmans refused to comment on the loss, which had triggered local critics and analysts to call for his resignation in show of accountability.

The Kingdom — playing in Group B — will head to Kuwait on June 1 to complete their run in qualifiers, playing against Nepal, Kuwait and Australia on June 7, June 11 and June 15, respectively.

The UAE is in Group G of the double qualifiers, and will be playing the remainder of its games against Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia and Vietnam on June 3, June 7, June 11 and June 15, respectively.

Jordan and Kuwait are currently tied in second place (10pts. each) as Australia remains in the lead of Group B (12pts.), Nepal in fourth (3pts.) and China in fifth (0pts.)
