The 46-year-old former England midfielder made 129 appearances for West Ham between 2007 and 2011, and has a strong record of gaining promotion to the Premier League. Parker led Fulham, Bournemouth and Burnley to promotion from the Championship in 2020, 2022 and 2025 respectively.

Parker succeeds Portugal's Nuno Espírito Santo, whom the club parted ways with after two consecutive defeats left West Ham in eighth place in the table.
Nuno had taken charge of West Ham in September 2025, when the club was going through a difficult period, but he could not lift it out of its crisis, and he presided over its relegation from the Premier League for the first time since 2011.

In a statement to the club, Parker said: "It is a moment I am very proud of, to take on this role and return to a club that means a great deal to me and my family. I have wonderful memories from my time here. I lived here for four years, and perhaps played the best football of my career during that time."

He added: "What excites me more than anything else is this opportunity. I am proud and grateful for the club's trust in me, and I look forward to leading the team back to the Premier League and taking responsibility for this club at this important stage."

Parker's most recent coaching job was at Burnley, which he left bymutual consent in April, just days after the club were relegated back to the Championship.
