The West and Palestinian human rights: The great fall

The dual positions of the leaders of the Western world regarding respect for human rights principles in various parts of the world, where violations are criticized in some countries, and ignored in others is nothing new. Human rights defenders are aware that the political and strategic interests of these countries are the main driver guiding these positions.اضافة اعلان

The global human rights system is the summary of the principles and values that human history has achieved, which are devoted to respecting human dignity, and cover a wide range of basic standards that individuals and groups must enjoy, including civil, political, economic, social, and cultural rights. It has become the backbone of what is called international law.

In this context, we do not need a great effort to prove that Palestine’s decades long occupation, and the major crimes and massacres committed by the Israeli occupation in the last few weeks are clearly war crimes in violation of international law.
This is not strange at all as Western countries have practiced colonization of other peoples for many decades. They have stolen, and continue to steal, their resources in various ways. The mentality of Western politicians forces them to look at us in the region, as well as other non-Western peoples, as not deserving of enjoying what they enjoy.
These various humanitarian crimes constituted a test of the credibility of the leaders of the countries of the Western world, whose politicians declare day and night the importance of respecting the principles and standards of human rights.

In the last few weeks, the facade finally fell dramatically, preceded by a series of other falls over the past decades turning a blind eye to many human rights violations and issues. The West did not just turn a blind eye to the crimes of the occupying force in Palestine and Gaza, but it politically and militarily supported and encouraged the commitment of more war crimes against Palestinians under the pretext of “Israel’s right to defend itself.”

This occupying state, which the United Nations described as an apartheid state, committed crimes and massacres before and during its occupation of Palestine, and continues to commit crimes and massacres under the watchful eye of the entire world. This is not just based on hearing stories of massacres and killings from our fathers, mothers, grandfathers, and grandmothers who survived through such horror and expulsion from their countries. Rather, these crimes have been documented by Jewish historians after reviewing the relevant British and Israeli archival evidence. Ilan Pappé’s book “The Ethnic Cleansing of Palestine” – published in 2007 – is, perhaps, the most important book that documented Britain and Israel’s crimes against the Palestinian people during the formative years of establishing a Jewish state between 1947 and 1948. Israel is the only "state" in the world that does not recognize international law and has not implemented any of the United Nations resolutions related to the rights of the Palestinian people under occupation since its establishment.

In the face of all these crimes against humanity and war crimes, the leaders of the major Western countries are still providing all forms of political and material support to this country and its aggression against Gaza. Seemingly, throwing away all the various texts of international law and human rights principles, and preventing the passage of a resolution that would initiate a cease fire at the UN Security Council.

These decisions clearly showcase that the leaders and politicians of these countries recognize international law and human rights principles only when they serve their interests, and only when they violate the rights of citizens in countries of Western origin. As for other non-Western peoples, even if they hold their nationalities, they do not necessarily enjoy these rights, nor do they necessarily benefit from international law.

What moral fall is greater than this fall?

In what language will the leaders of Western countries speak about international law and human rights in the future after this exposure?

Their perspectives cannot, or do not want, to see the events of the past weeks for what they are: crimes and massacres, even as they are clearly broadcasted across all forms of media.
