In a post on the social media platform X, Starmer added that "this successful operation has dealt another blow to Russia, reminding those who contribute to funding Russian President Vladimir Putin's war in Ukraine that we will not allow them to hide," according to Reuters.

He continued: "I want to thank everyone involved in this operation, including our armed forces personnel and law enforcement officers who keep this country safe 24 hours a day, 365 days a year."

The British Ministry of Defence stated that British forces boarded a sanctioned shadow fleet oil tanker in the English Channel this morning.

The ministry added that the oil tanker, named "Smertos," will be temporarily moved to an anchorage off the southern coast of England, where it will be monitored for any safety or environmental concerns.
