According to Al-Mamlaka TV, the text is set to
be reviewed on Sunday during a special session of the Executive Board of the
World Health Organization, convened to discuss "the health situation in
the occupied Palestinian territories, including East Jerusalem."
The project was jointly presented by Algeria,
Saudi Arabia, Bolivia, China, Egypt, the UAE, Indonesia, Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon,
Malaysia, Morocco, Pakistan, Palestine, Qatar, Tunisia, Turkey, and Yemen.
The resolution expresses "deep concern
about the catastrophic humanitarian situation in the occupied Palestinian
territories, including East Jerusalem, especially in light of the military
operations in the Gaza Strip."
The text voices concern about "the
imposed blockade" and the "significant damage inflicted on public
health in general."
It also addresses the risks that may pose a
threat to public health due to the presence of "thousands of victims still
buried under the rubble," as well as the conditions of hygiene and
overcrowded shelters.
The draft resolution calls on the Israeli
authorities to "ensure the respect and protection of all those working in
the medical and humanitarian field, whose activities are limited to medicine,
and their means of transportation and equipment, as well as hospitals and other
medical facilities."
The resolution also demands that the Israeli
occupation authorities "facilitate uninterrupted, organized, safe, and
barrier-free passage for those working in the medical and humanitarian
fields."
The draft resolution calls on the
international community to "mobilize sufficient funding to meet the
immediate and future needs of the health programs of the World Health
Organization" and "rebuild the Palestinian health system in close collaboration
with the World Health Organization and UN specialized agencies."
The Executive Board of the World Health
Organization consists of 34 member states, elected for three years from each of
the organization's regions. It plays a role in implementing the decisions of
the World Health Assembly.
