Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister Saeed Khatibzadeh said on Saturday that the United States “cannot impose its will” or blockade the strategic Strait of Hormuz, following Iran’s announcement that its armed forces had reclosed the vital maritime passage.
Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of an annual diplomatic forum in Antalya, Khatibzadeh stated: “Americans cannot impose their will to besiege Iran, while Iran, in good faith, is trying to facilitate safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz.”
He also denied that a date had been set for a new round of negotiations with Washington.
Khatibzadeh further remarked that U.S. President Donald Trump “posts frequently and speaks a lot.”
