A security source told the Syrian Al-Ikhbariya channel early this morning that "rebel groups in the Sweida Governorate renewed their targeting of Internal Security Forces points along the axis of the towns of Rimat Hazem and Walgha."
In a related report, the "Sweida 24" news page on Facebook stated that a group from the 501st Battalion, known as "Forsan Hamza" (Hamza’s Knights)—which belongs to the "National Guard" and is led by an individual named Yamen Al-Sagheer—attempted to infiltrate the Mansoura-Rimat Hazem axis in the western countryside of Sweida.
The local news outlet, which specializes in Sweida's affairs, added that the infiltration attempt was carried out under heavy covering fire using 23mm machine guns and 107mm rockets. However, Syrian Internal Security units detected the advancement early and engaged the group with light and medium weapons.
According to Sweida 24, this led to direct clashes between the two sides, followed by the intensive use of mortar shells. No confirmed information regarding casualties or human losses on either side has been released yet.
This escalation follows Jordanian airstrikes two days ago that targeted drug trafficking sites in the governorate, including the towns of Arman, Malah, and other locations.
The general situation in Sweida is currently defined by severe political and social tension. The governorate is experiencing sharp polarization following demonstrations in April, which included demands for "self-determination" and the rejection of government administrative decisions. This has led to rising public criticism against certain local factions. A state of cautious anticipation persists due to the multiplicity of unofficial armed groups, as the governorate remains caught in the fallout of stalled political solutions between local forces and the central authority.
