French President Emmanuel Macron announced on Friday that the United Nations summit on the two-state solution for Israel and the Palestinians, originally scheduled for next week, has been postponed due to rising tensions in the Middle East.اضافة اعلان

The summit, which was to be co-hosted by France and Saudi Arabia, was set to take place at the UN General Assembly in New York from June 17 to 20. Macron was among the leaders expected to attend. The Palestinian Authority had expressed hope that the summit would revive the long-stalled peace process.

Despite the delay, Macron reaffirmed his “commitment to recognizing the State of Palestine” at the appropriate time. France has been advocating for a broader movement to recognize a Palestinian state alongside the recognition of Israel and its right to self-defense.

Speaking to reporters, Macron explained that the summit was postponed due to logistical and security concerns, as well as the inability of some Palestinian representatives to attend. He stressed that the event will be held “as soon as possible,” and that he is currently in discussions with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman to set a new date.

In a joint letter to the 193-member United Nations, the French and Saudi ambassadors stated that the postponement was due to “current circumstances in the Middle East, which prevent regional leaders from attending the conference in New York.” — (AP)
