According to the report, products like Google’s Gemini and xAI’s Grok, along with Meta AI to a lesser extent, have begun narrowing the gap with ChatGPT on both web and mobile platforms, as reported by TechCrunch and reviewed by Al Arabiya Business.
Google Rising Strongly
For the first time since the report began, Google has climbed four spots thanks to its new platforms, led by Gemini, AI Studio, NotebookLM, and Google Labs, which are now tracked as separate domains, allowing clearer measurement of their growth.
The report also noted that the Gemini app ranks second worldwide on mobile devices after ChatGPT, with 90% of its users coming through Android. It also ranks second on the web, accounting for 12% of ChatGPT’s traffic.
Grok’s Remarkable Leap
Meanwhile, Grok has continued its rapid rise, growing from an exclusive tool on X into over 20 million monthly active users in less than a year.
The app ranked fourth on the web and 23rd on mobile, surging by 40% following the launch of its fourth version in July 2025.
Fierce Competition from China
The report also highlighted the growing presence of Chinese companies, such as ByteDance’s Doubao, which ranked second on mobile, and Alibaba’s Quark, which ranked ninth on the web, in addition to Kimi from Moonshot.
Data shows that 75% of visits to these platforms come from China, at a time when companies like DeepSeek, Kling, and SeaArt have begun exporting their technologies worldwide.
New Apps Breaking the Dominance
Andreessen Horowitz also pointed to new names entering the top app rankings, including Lovable and Replit, both specializing in app programming, alongside emerging apps like PixAI and Photo AI.
While ChatGPT continues to hold the global lead, the figures reveal a heated race growing more intense between Google, Grok, and Meta—all seeking to claim a share of the generative AI crown.
