According to
Ad-Dustour, the two countries are working to speed up the procedures for
implementing the city project, which was agreed on three years ago. The project
aims to strengthen economic cooperation between the two sides and achieve
integration in industrial and investment fields. The two countries have decided on the
allocation of lots of land on each side of the borders.
The official
said that the consulting company is about to complete the process of gathering
all the necessary preliminary data for the study and respond to the inquiries it
received from the concerned authorities about the project.
The
Iraqi-Jordanian Company for Industry, established in 1981, and jointly owned by
the governments of the two countries, is responsible for following up and
supervising the initial procedures for the establishment of the economic city.
The economic city
project came as one of the outcomes of the tripartite summits that brought
together His Majesty
King Abdullah II, Egyptian President
Abdel Fattah El-Sisi,
and Iraqi Prime Minister
Mustafa Al-Kazemi.
Jordan and
Iraq seek to enhance economic cooperation, eliminate obstacles facing
intra-trade, and stimulate the private sector to take advantage of available
opportunities in both countries.
