According to the project’s evaluation report, USD 296 million has been disbursed out of the total USD 500 million in funding—representing 53.8%—with the program receiving a “satisfactory” implementation rating. The program came into effect in August 2023.
On the financial efficiency front, the National Electric Power Company (NEPCO) achieved savings and additional revenues totaling JOD 107 million by mid-2025, as part of efforts to reduce expenses and boost operational income. A new tariff structure has also been adopted to improve revenues and reduce electrical losses.
In the field of renewable energy and power supply, the Kingdom maintained a generation share exceeding 26% from renewable energy sources, injecting an estimated 2,072 GWh of solar and wind power into the grid by mid-year.
Moreover, the electricity outage rate declined to 0.23 outages per subscriber by the end of September, compared with 0.34 in 2022, reflecting progress in service reliability and grid sustainability.
The program operates within a governmental framework extending through 2030, targeting higher sector efficiency, improved governance, and strengthened financial risk management. Measures include supporting NEPCO’s restructuring, developing internal control and auditing systems, applying International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS), improving debt management, and converting part of the company’s liabilities into equity.
The program also includes training for young engineers in renewable energy and energy efficiency fields, with female participation exceeding 25 out of 40 trainees, alongside the implementation of energy efficiency audits in government buildings according to the approved schedule.
