The negotiations were chaired by Minister of Planning and International Cooperation Nasser Al-Shraideh and German Parliamentary Minister of State in the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development Niels Annen.

Attending the meeting were representatives of the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ), the German Federal Institute for Geosciences (BGR), the German Development Bank (KFW), the German National Standards Institute (PTB), and relevant Jordanian ministries and institutions.

The 413.9 million-euro assistance package includes development aid to Jordan worth 318.4 million euros for 2022 and 2023, financial cooperation grants worth 179 million euros for development projects, grants worth 89.4 million euros consisting of technical cooperation support for development projects, development loans worth 50 million euros in the water sector, and humanitarian aid for the current year at a value of 95.5 million euros to support Jordan in dealing with the Syrian refugee crisis, Shraideh said.

The total aid included an additional grant for the National Water Carrier project worth 15 million euros, bringing German grants offered in 2022 for this strategic project to 65 million euros.

Shraideh lauded the strategic partnership with Germany, which serves the interests of the two friendly countries, and expressed Jordan’s appreciation for Germany’s assistance toward priority projects, in addition to the assistance to meet the needs of the communities hosting Syrian refugees.

Germany is one of Jordan’s main development partners, especially in the water sector, the minister said, highlighting the importance of the financial and technical assistance, which reflects Germany’s understanding of the challenges the Jordanian economy faces at this stage and its willingness to stand by Jordan as a reliable partner, to help it confront these challenges.

Shraideh briefed the German delegation on the various comprehensive economic, administrative, and political reform programs that Jordan is implementing within the framework of the Economic Modernization Vision, the public sector modernization plan, and the political modernization process, as announced and adopted by the government at the directives of His Majesty King Abdullah.

The minister called on Germany to maintain its support to Jordan, to help it implement reform programs in various developmental sectors.
