Misto stated that Hungarian carrier Wizz Air has begun operating two weekly flights to Jordan from Budapest, while Ryanair will resume operations to 16 European destinations starting October 28. The airline will begin with two destinations as of September 20.
He added that three other low-cost carriers are currently studying the possibility of launching regular flights between Europe and Jordan. He noted that Ryanair has been granted approval to operate regular winter-season flights to 16 destinations in Europe.
Regarding the process of granting operating permits, Misto explained that airlines submit applications to the Civil Aviation Regulatory Commission to be designated as a foreign operator in Jordan, supported by a request from their respective national aviation authorities. This process is conducted under bilateral air transport agreements signed between Jordan and the countries where these airlines are registered, after which the necessary operating documents are reviewed.
He further clarified that the Commission issues all airlines two seasonal permits annually: one for the winter season (October 28–March 27) and another for the summer season (March 28–October 27). The decision to operate year-round or seasonally rests with the airline itself. Misto stressed that low-cost flights are available to all passengers and are not limited to tourism purposes.
The number of passengers arriving in Jordan on low-cost carriers reached 344,781 in 2024 via Ryanair and Wizz Air, compared to 885,547 passengers in 2023 across six airlines.
