Minister of Public Works and Housing Eng. Maher Abu Al-Samen inspected Wadi Shu‘aib Road on Saturday afternoon. The road links the city of Al-Salt with the Southern Shouneh District and the Dead Sea. The visit aimed to assess the extent of damage and the repeated rock and soil landslides that have affected the road as a result of recent weather depressions and heavy rainfall.اضافة اعلان

During the tour, the minister listened to officials’ explanations regarding the causes of the recurring landslides, which have damaged vital sections of the road and disrupted traffic. He stressed that ensuring citizens’ safety is the ministry’s top priority, particularly on this vital road, which usually experiences heavy traffic and includes steep and narrow sections.

Based on the findings of the inspection and the recommendations of technical teams, the Public Safety Committee in Balqa Governorate decided to temporarily close Wadi Shu‘aib Road for several weeks. The closure will extend from the Saqi Mahis area (the Shrine of Prophet Shu‘aib) to the Unknown Soldier Intersection, covering a distance of approximately 13 kilometers.

The closure is a precautionary measure aimed at implementing comprehensive remedial works. Planned measures include removing all collapsed materials, reducing loads from the mountainside, constructing engineering terraces, installing culverts and side protections, using gabion techniques, and placing New Jersey concrete barriers to secure the road.

The ministry called on citizens and drivers to use the approved alternative routes: the ‘Ira–Al-Karama Road, the Al-Salt–Al-‘Arda–Jordan Valley Road, and the Amman–Al-‘Adassiyah–Jordan Valley Road.

The ministry also urged road users to follow official advisories, strictly adhere to guidance and warning signs, and avoid using this route during the work period to ensure their safety and facilitate maintenance crews’ operations on the ground.
