King, Egypt president hold talks in Cairo

His Majesty’s working trip to include Algeria, Italy

AMMAN — His Majesty King Abdullah departed on a working trip early Saturday to visit Egypt, Algeria, and Italy, according to a Royal Court statement.اضافة اعلان

During his working visit to Egypt, His Majesty held talks with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi covering the deep-rooted ties between Egypt and Jordan, as well as recent regional and international developments.

During the meeting, held at Al-Ittihadiya Palace, in Cairo both leaders expressed pride in the distinguished ties between the two countries and peoples, and keenness to bolster relations across various fields.

The two leaders reaffirmed the need to continue expanding bilateral cooperation, and trilateral cooperation with Iraq, as well as to continue making progress on joint agreements in service of mutual interests and Arab causes.

Discussions also covered the latest regional and international developments, with both sides stressing the need to maintain coordination and consultation on issues of mutual concern.

Turning to the Palestinian cause, King Abdullah and President Sisi underscored the need to provide full support to the Palestinians as they seek their just and legitimate rights, stressing the importance of stepping up efforts to reach just and comprehensive peace, on the basis of the two-state solution.

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi, Director of the Office of His Majesty Jafar Hassan, General Intelligence Department Director Maj. Gen. Ahmad Husni, and Jordan’s Ambassador to Egypt Amjad Adaileh attended the meeting on the Jordanian side.

On the Egyptian side, Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry, Director of the General Intelligence Service Maj. Gen. Abbas Kamel, Chief of the Presidential Cabinet Maj. Gen. Ahmad Mohammad Ali, Presidential Spokesperson Ambassador Bassam Rady, and Egypt Ambassador to Jordan Mohammed Samir Marzouq attended the meeting.

Earlier, an official welcoming ceremony was held for His Majesty upon arrival at Al-Ittihadiya Palace.

After his visit to Cairo, His Majesty will head to Algiers, to start a state visit at the invitation of Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune.

The King is scheduled to hold talks with President Tebboune, and to meet with a number of senior Algerian officials.

In Rome, His Majesty will hold talks with Italian President Sergio Mattarella and Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni.

HRH Prince Ali was sworn in as Regent, in the presence of Cabinet members.
