AMMAN — Jordan's job market creates 70,000 to 90,000
employment opportunities annually, according to Haidar Fraihatt,
director-general of the Jordan Department of Statistics (DoS).

Additionally, approximately 220,000 Jordanians are employed
in the public sector. However, Jordan ranks as the second-lowest country
globally in terms of female employment rates, with only about 14 percent of
women in the workforce. Youth unemployment stands at 47 percent according to
recent statistics, Ammon News reported.
Regarding the economy, Jordan's GDP for 2022 reached 34
billion at current prices, reflecting a robust growth rate of 5.2 percent
compared to the previous year. At constant prices, the GDP amounted to 31
billion, with a growth rate of 2.5 percent.
Cooperation through data
Plans are underway to establish an Interactive National Data
Center by early 2024, connecting critical areas such as statistics, the
Ministry of Finance, the Central Bank, land management, income tax, customs,
company monitoring, and tourism.
Poverty statistics
Fraihatt stated that general statistics will announce
poverty figures and rates in Jordan during the month of April next year.
This was mentioned during a discussion in the Parliamentary
Committee on Economy and Investment regarding statistical figures and data on
poverty rates, unemployment, and gross domestic product (GDP), Al-Mamlaka News
reported.
He explained that the study of poverty figures and rates in
Jordan will be based on categories such as food poverty, clothing, government
services, transportation, living standards, housing, healthcare services,
social services, and various basic needs.
