AMMAN — Jordan on Tuesday condemned extremist Israeli settlers’ continued violations at the Al-Aqsa Mosque/Al-Haram Al-Sharif and breaches on the holy complex, according to the Jordan News Agency, Petra.اضافة اعلان

On Tuesday, scores of Israeli settlers raided Al-Aqsa mosque performing Talmudic rituals and prayers, according to the Palestinian news agency, Wafa.

Jews can visit Al-Aqsa complex at certain hours but may not pray or perform rituals there. While no Israeli law prohibits Jewish prayer at the complex, Israeli authorities have enforced a ban to prevent tensions since 1967.

Israeli occupation forces also prevented worshippers from entering Al-Aqsa, according to the Middle East Monitor.

Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Sinan Majali said Israeli escalations and provocations in Al-Aqsa and the rest of the complex, as well as the restrictions placed on worshippers, are “rejected and condemned and represent a flagrant violation of the historical and legal status quo and international law”.

Majali said that the continued Israeli raids on holy sites and occupied Palestinian territories might lead to further escalations.

He stressed that the complex, with its entire area of 144 dunums, is a place of worship purely for Muslims and that the Jerusalem and Al-Aqsa Mosque Affairs Department is the body that has exclusive jurisdiction to manage all the affairs of the complex and organize entry to it.

He also called on Israel, as an occupying power, to immediately halt all actions that aim to change the legal and historical status quo and impose spatial or temporal divisions.

The Lower House’s Foreign Affairs Committee on Tuesday also condemned the escalating provocations by the Israeli occupation authority at Al-Aqsa, stating that it is a flagrant violation of international law and the historical and legal status quo in Jerusalem and its sanctities.

In a press release, the head of the committee, MP Khaldoun Heina, denounced the actions perpetrated by Jewish extremists, including the violations against Muslim cemeteries, while under the protection of Israeli forces.
