Jordan's Energy and Minerals Regulatory Commission has called for a ban on installing fireplaces in bedrooms and bathrooms, warning that such placements pose a risk of fires, suffocation and gas leaks - particularly as winter approaches.

The commission told Al-Ghad that the directive follows inspection and monitoring tours conducted in cooperation with other competent authorities. Those tours identified practices that may have contributed to fires, suffocation incidents and gas leaks during winter months.
The commission called for fireplaces to be installed only in well-ventilated areas and said a proper flue must accompany every unit.
It also stressed the importance of complying with general safety instructions and the installation requirements for fireplaces, citing the protection of residents' lives and property as the primary concern.
The commission said it would continue its regulatory role and urged members of the public not to hesitate to contact it with observations, enquiries or complaints.
