It is thought to have started in an open area of dry grass before reaching wooded patches.

Between 30 and 40 horses from nearby stables escaped to the main street as thick smoke engulfed their stalls.

Civil Defense fire brigade teams were quick on the scene and helicopters carrying water containers also intervened. Water from pools in the area were brought in an attempt to control the fire.

Thick smoke covered the area and its surroundings for nearly four kilometers.

Minister of Agriculture, Khaled Hneifat, who arrived at the site, told Jordan News that the fire was being brought under control. He said he believed that the cause of the fire could be a cigarette and that the ministry will take precautionary measures to prevent it from recurring.
