AMMANMinistry of Higher Education and Scientific Research spokesman Muhannad Al-Khatib said that 70,000 people graduate annually from universities in Jordan, and that even when they are specialized in certain disciplines, the local labor market is unable to absorb them all, local media outlet reported.اضافة اعلان

However, he stressed that the ministry is keen on ensuring that university graduates are qualified to join the local labor market only, and global and regional ones.

Khatib added that over the past two years, the Higher Education Council adopted a set of measures aimed at addressing some challenges, such as not allowing additional saturated or stagnant specializations at universities.

He said that the council cannot issue a decision stopping admission in such disciplines completely, since the issue is not purely academic, but must take into account social and economic variables.

Khatib pointed out that there are still those who want to enroll in saturated or stagnant disciplines, adding that this is their right and the council cannot deprive them of it.

The council’s decision regarding such majors aims at reducing admission by 50 percent in all public universities, while the Higher Education Accreditation Commission took the decision to gradually reduce the admission to these majors in private universities as well.
