3 companies qualify for e-passport launch bid in Jordan

AMMAN — On Wednesday, Minister of Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship Ahmad Hanandeh confirmed that three companies have been qualified for the bid to launch electronic passport services, Khaberni reported. The current phase involves objections and legal extensions for objections, with financial bids opening at the end of the objection period, Hanandeh said in a statement to Al-Mamlaka TV. The Ministry initiated a local and international tender in May 2023 for companies to submit technical proposals for launching electronic passport services in Jordan. Hanandeh emphasized the natural progression from traditional passports to electronic ones, equipped with chips for easy data upload, biometric fingerprints, and various reading methods. He also asserted the impossibility of forging electronic passport data, highlighting its essential requirement for entry into many countries. Furthermore, he clarified that the widespread use of electronic passports is expected to facilitate travel procedures at airports and establishments that mandate passport verification.
