These defendants have broken into the private accounts of citizens by sending e-mails saying: “Win a sum of money immediately from …,” provided that you share the email with ten of your friends.  The email requests the recipient to fill out certain information, including bank account details.

Under the scam, victims receive a message from the defendants, informing them that they have won cash but that they have to transfer a small amount of money before receiving the big prize.

The Anti-Cyber Crimes Unit was able to detect the fraudulent activity and pursue the perpetrators, who include former bank employees.  The detained individuals were referred to the Criminal Magistrate Court following an extensive investigation.
