Saudi Arabia moved to the top of Group A after Iraq and Oman drew 1-1 earlier on Wednesday.
The hosts dominated the first half but lacked precision in front of goal. Mohamed Abu Al-Shamat appeared to put Saudi Arabia ahead, but the goal was ruled out after his teammate Mohamed Kanno was judged to have committed a foul at the start of the move.
The pattern continued after the break, with coach Georgios Donis' side maintaining control of the tempo as Kuwait closed down the spaces in front of Saudi Arabia's attackers.
Saudi winger Maher Al-Hamami broke down the left and delivered a cross that defender Al-Haqan attempted to clear, only to inadvertently turn the ball into his own net.
Saudi Arabia suffered a late setback when goalkeeper Nawaf Al-Aqidi sustained a serious injury following a heavy challenge from Khaled Al-Morshed. He was forced to leave the field and was replaced by Mohammed Al-Owais.
