Mohamed Salah, captain of the Egyptian national football team, thanked the Egyptian state and the Egyptian Football Association for their support ahead of the team’s opening Group B match against Angola in the qualifiers for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations.

Speaking during Egyptian Minister of Youth and Sports Jawhar Nabil’s visit to the Pharaohs’ training session, Salah said the team had achieved successes that brought joy to the Egyptian people since the coaching staff, led by Hossam Hassan and Ibrahim Hassan, began working three years ago. He added that the team had presented a positive image of Egyptian football.
Salah said he always reminds his teammates that they should be proud of what they have accomplished and give their utmost to continue making Egyptian fans happy.
The Egyptian minister had visited the national team’s training session ahead of the Angola match and was received by Hany Abou Rida, president of the Egyptian Football Association.
Nabil conveyed Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi’s greetings to the players and reaffirmed the state’s continued support for the national teams.
The minister praised the national team’s recent improvement and the spirit shown by its players, saying its match against Argentina attracted widespread attention and demonstrated the team’s ability to face and compete against top-level national sides.
Nabil expressed confidence in the players and coaching staff and their ability to make a strong start to the qualifiers and bring joy to Egyptian fans.
The Angola match will be Egypt’s first since its historic appearance at the FIFA World Cup in the United States, Mexico and Canada this summer. Egypt reached the World Cup round of 16 for the first time before suffering a dramatic 3-2 defeat to Argentina in the closing moments, after leading the then-world champions 2-0 with only minutes remaining.
Group B of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, with the tournament to be hosted by Tanzania, Kenya and Uganda, also includes Malawi and South Sudan.
