The victory moved Liverpool up to five points, provisionally placing them fifth in the Premier League standings, while Ipswich remained on three points in 13th place.

Alexander Isak scored both of Liverpool’s goals in the sixth and ninth minutes, giving the visitors an early advantage that ultimately decided the match.

Both goals were set up by Dutch international Cody Gakpo, who played a key role in Liverpool’s strong start.

The brace marked an impressive start to Isak’s Liverpool campaign, taking his Premier League tally this season to three goals after he scored in the 2-2 draw against Nottingham Forest in the previous round.

The Swedish striker also continued his strong record against Ipswich, taking his tally to six goals in three appearances against the club.

Liverpool entered the match seeking their first league win of the season after opening their campaign with consecutive 2-2 draws against Newcastle United and Nottingham Forest.

Despite the early setback, Ipswich improved after conceding twice and attempted to fight their way back into the match, but they were unable to break through Liverpool’s defense or convert their spells of pressure into goals.

The match also marked the Liverpool debut of new signing Bradley Barcola, with the French international coming on as a substitute for Victor Muñoz in the 64th minute.
