The Department of Statistics has released its monthly report on the Consumer Price Index (CPI), showing that inflation reached 1.06% in January 2026 compared with the same month in 2025. Accordingly, the overall Consumer Price Index for January 2026 stood at 113.42, compared with 112.23 for January 2025. It also reached 113.42 in January 2026, up from 113.22 in December 2025.

At the commodity group level, the main contributors to the year-on-year increase in the CPI for January 2026 compared with January 2025 were:

Personal belongings (38.92%)

Oils and fats (13.45%)

Tea, coffee, and cocoa (12.02%)

Fruits and nuts (4.23%)

Tobacco and cigarettes (3.99%)

Meanwhile, the rise was partially offset by decreases in:

Meat and poultry (9.80%)

Vegetables, dry and canned legumes (6.27%)

Household appliances (3.28%)

Household utensils (1.07%)

Compared with December 2025, the groups that most notably contributed to the increase in the CPI for January 2026 were:

Personal belongings (5.38%)

Tobacco and cigarettes (3.98%)

Water and sanitation (3.78%)

Vegetables, dry and canned legumes (1.85%)

Meat and poultry (0.97%)

It is worth noting that the CPI (inflation) is calculated based on a consumer basket comprising 850 goods, including 325 food items and 525 non-food items.
