WASHINGTON — According to The Washington Times,
the US government has approved the sale of F-16 fighter jets to Turkey for $23
billion, as reported by Al-Ghad.
On Friday, the US State Department announced
that the sale includes Turkey acquiring 40 new F-16 aircraft, while Greece will
receive 40 F-35 aircraft for $8 billion.
The State Department officially notified
Congress of this dual deal, as required by US law. Additionally, an anonymous
US official stated that the US was waiting for Turkey to receive documents
confirming Sweden's membership in NATO before proceeding, highlighting the
highly sensitive nature of the ongoing negotiations.
