New Method Identifies Patients at Risk of Liver Cancer
Researchers at National Taiwan University have developed a simplified method for early detection of liver cancer risk years before the disease manifests, based on four key indicators.اضافة اعلان

According to Clinical and Molecular Hepatology, the new SAFE system predicts the likelihood of developing liver cancer using standardized data, including age, body weight, diabetes status, and results from routine blood tests such as liver enzymes, platelet count, and globulins.

The researchers analyzed data from nearly 13,000 patients with various chronic liver diseases, along with healthy volunteers. They found that when the SAFE score exceeds 100, the risk of liver cancer increases by 7.5 times. This predictive function proved effective for patients with hepatitis, alcoholic liver disease, and especially for those with fatty liver disease, a group for which follow-up recommendations were previously unclear. The findings were further validated using a larger external dataset of over 120,000 individuals.

Experts note that the SAFE system helps identify patients who require regular monitoring, while also distinguishing those at low or negligible risk, provided they maintain a stable lifestyle.

Researchers hope this simple tool will soon become part of routine clinical practice, enabling early detection of serious pathological changes.
