A new study has revealed that drinking a total of 7 to 8 cups per day of water, tea, and coffee combined may increase average lifespan.
The study, published in the British Journal of Nutrition, found that combining these three beverages in varying amounts — with water making up the largest portion — provides greater health benefits than consuming just one of them alone.

Conducted by researchers at Southern Medical University in China, the study followed more than 182,000 adults for over 13 years. Participants were asked to record what they ate and drank over the previous 24 hours to measure their intake of water, tea, and coffee.
The researchers explained that drinking two to three cups of coffee and one cup of tea, along with the recommended amount of water, offers more benefits than focusing on a single beverage.
However, the study emphasized that the relationship between drinking water, tea, and coffee and longevity is merely an association, not a direct cause.
Joan Salge Blake, a nutrition professor at Boston University, noted that tea and coffee play a key role in daily hydration, despite containing caffeine and having a mild diuretic effect.
According to the website Verywell Health, coffee consumption has been linked to a lower risk of several chronic diseases, including type 2 diabetes, liver disease, and certain types of cancer.
Samantha Coughen, Director of the Nutrition Program at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, explained that tea and coffee “enhance each other’s benefits.”
Blake also recommended adding a small amount of low-fat milk to coffee to enrich it with healthy nutrients such as calcium, potassium, and vitamin D. (Agencies)
