Iraqi comedian and actor Kamel Al-Azraqi, widely known as “Al-Khal Kamel,” has died at the age of 73 after a long battle with illness, following an extensive artistic career marked by notable comedic performances.

The Iraqi Artists Syndicate in Basra mourned the late actor in a statement published on its Facebook page, describing him as one of the city’s beloved artistic figures whose humor and presence brought joy to audiences.
Born in Basra in 1953, Al-Azraqi began his artistic career in the early 1970s, starting in theater through the Education Department’s school-activities troupe. He participated in several productions, including Six Dirhams and Oedipus, and also worked on theater set design.
He later expanded his career into radio, television and cinema, becoming particularly known for his comedic roles and humorous sketches.
Among his notable works were the television production The Moon Protects the Revolutionaries and the feature film The Red Man.
One of the most prominent stages of his career was joining the cast of the popular Iraqi comedy program “Qif Lil-Tahshish” (Stop for Sarcasm), where he performed satirical sketches alongside several prominent Iraqi comedians.
