Residents of Petra District said that daily interaction with visitors to the archaeological site represents one of the key aspects of tourism life in the area, as a large segment of the local community relies on the tourism sector in its various activities, which provides job opportunities and sources of income for families.

They noted that developing tourism services and improving facilities surrounding the archaeological site contribute to enhancing visitors’ experiences and extending their length of stay, which in turn has a positive impact on the local community and strengthens Petra’s competitiveness as a global tourist destination.
Speaking to the Jordan News Agency (Petra), residents said that the people of Petra District play a fundamental role in promoting the archaeological site through their daily interaction with visitors and their direct contribution to presenting a positive image of Jordan and its tourism assets, in addition to their role in preserving the site’s cultural identity.
Citizen Ahmad Al-Badoul, who works as a tour guide, said that continuous interaction with visitors from around the world helps convey a positive image of Jordan, while introducing Petra’s history and civilizational significance. He added that such interaction enhances cultural exchange and leaves favorable impressions on visitors.
Meanwhile, Yusuf Al-Farajat, who works in selling heritage products, said that visitors’ interest in learning about local customs and traditions adds a human dimension to their experience in Petra, noting that daily encounters with tourists often turn into stories reflecting the site’s status on the global tourism map.
Citizen Suad Al-Nawafleh pointed out that women’s participation in tourism activities, particularly through handicrafts and traditional products, represents an important form of local community support for tourism. She emphasized that such participation helps preserve cultural identity and enhances economic benefits for families.
Residents agreed that positive interaction with visitors contributes to building cumulative experience among local people in dealing with different cultures, stressing that this experience has strengthened their role in promoting Petra and conveying its cultural image, thereby supporting its continued presence as one of the world’s leading tourist destinations.
