AQABA — Head of the Aqaba Diving Association Khamash Yassin and a team of consultants from the Japanese International
Cooperation Agency (JICA) on Saturday to discuss ways of marketing diving
tourism in Aqaba.
Discussions centered on the mechanism for the
implementation of the Japanese tourism modernization and development project
and enhancing bilateral cooperation.
Yassin reviewed the Japanese team's assessment
of Aqaba’s most foremost tourist features and diving sites across the Gulf of
Aqaba. The assessment covered both natural and manmade diving sites and diving
centers’ technical and logistical capabilities. Aqaba’s diving sites attract
both domestic and international tourists.
Yassin told Jordan News that the Jordanian
government supports diving tourism by Royal directive through several projects
aimed at marketing Jordanian tourism, especially diving tourism in the Gulf of
Aqaba.
The Aqaba Diving Association participated in
tourism exhibitions in Japan and introduced a program to train women divers and
support the country’s diving sector in the field of environmental scientific
activities.
Yassin explained that a site called the
Japanese Garden is among the diving sites in Aqaba. The site contains many
types of multicolored corals, the committee head said, adding that it is considered
one of the most important diving sites in the region, in addition to the more
than 26 other sites where diving is permitted in the Gulf of Aqaba.
