The program aims to train nurses and midwives working in UNRWA health centers in Jordan, and the Palestinian territories of West Bank and Gaza, according to a joint statement released on Thursday.

Speaking at the launching ceremony, JNC Secretary-General, Dr Hani Al-Nawafleh, said the diploma comes within the council’s strategy to enhance the nurses’ and midwives’ potentials in the primary healthcare field by developing their technical and professional capabilities in the disease prevention, treatment, control, and prevention areas.

He noted the JNC is continuing to develop a series of training workshops that can be adapted for use by primary healthcare providers.

The diploma, he said, is designed to provide a “deeper understanding and implementation of evidence-based best health practices, and includes theoretical and practical training workshops scheduled to be taught by a group of doctors and nurses specialized in this field.”

For his part, UNRWA Health Director, Dr. Akihiro Sita, said the program is directed to nurses, nurses, and midwives working in UNRWA primary healthcare centers in Jordan and the Palestinian Territories.

It comes as part of continuous professional development to acquire specialized training in primary healthcare to maintain a unified implementation of UNRWA guidelines and enhance capabilities to meet Palestinian refugees’ health needs, Sita added.

The diploma, he noted, comes within UNRWA’s plans and policies in developing the nursing cadre, which is the backbone of primary healthcare services provided by health centers in UNRWA’s operation areas.
