The Syrian Ministry of Energy had previously announced the start of receiving natural gas to generate electricity in Syria, under a gas purchase agreement routed through Jordan, with volumes reaching up to 4 million cubic meters per day.

The ministry said the agreement falls within a gas purchase contract with an estimated annual cost of around $800 million, as part of a government approach to securing stable and sustainable energy sources and improving services provided to citizens.

Earlier, the Director of Government Communication at the Syrian Ministry of Energy, Ahmad al-Sulaiman, told Al-Mamlaka that there are agreements with Jordan to supply gas and cooperate in the electricity sector.
