The dictionary is the first of its kind in the Arab region. It was developed over a full year in collaboration with local and international experts in environment, sustainability, and the Arabic language, with careful alignment to key international standards. It has been officially registered with the National Library and is freely accessible as an open reference, aiming to standardize terminology and strengthen Jordan’s and the region’s ability to transition toward a more sustainable economy.

The Minister of Industry and Trade highlighted the dictionary’s importance as a national reference supporting government policies and initiatives, noting that unified terminology helps enhance the competitiveness of Jordanian companies and opens new markets for them.

Nisreen Barakat, Executive Director of the Jordanian Strategies Forum, explained that the dictionary was launched in response to a pressing need faced by Arab and Jordanian institutions due to the lack of a unified reference for sustainability and circular economy terms. This absence had complicated sustainability reporting, policy drafting, and research and studies.

She added that the forum initiated the project out of its conviction that reliable knowledge forms a foundational base for sustainable economic transformation, emphasizing that Jordan is capable of becoming a regional leader in this field.

The event also featured a panel discussion where representatives from the capital market, education, and banking sectors shared practical insights on the dictionary’s role in promoting transparency, developing curricula, and enabling sustainable finance. Speakers stressed that the dictionary represents an institutional innovation that enhances Jordan’s regional standing in adopting green economy tools and translating sustainability into practical applications through clear and standardized language.
