The United Nations Security Council will hold a session on Tuesday on the Palestinian issue, at the request of several members, to discuss the current situation in the occupied West Bank.

The council is expected to hear a briefing from Ramiz Alakbarov, Deputy Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process and UN Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator, via video conference.
The session comes a day after UN experts warned of a rise in settler attacks against Palestinians in the occupied Palestinian territory during July, particularly after at least 14 Palestinians were killed in the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, during the month, most of them in its final 10 days.
On June 29, Alakbarov briefed the Security Council on the UN Secretary-General’s quarterly report on the implementation of Resolution 2334, addressing developments in the occupied Palestinian territories, particularly the West Bank, including East Jerusalem.
During the briefing, he warned of the continued expansion of settlements, settler violence and the displacement of Palestinians, as well as measures deepening Israel’s administrative and territorial control over the West Bank and threatening prospects for a two-state solution.
