Sabihi added that the cumulative number of retirees according to the civilian and military retirement laws has reached 392,000 retirees.

He also expected that the number of retired people under the social security system will exceed the number of retirees under the civilian and military retirement systems within at least five years.

Retirement bills and system sizeSabihi pointed out that the current retirement bill for the social security system is approximately JD1.5 billion annually, while the retirement bill for civilian and military retirees is about JD1.7 billion annually.

As a result, the size of the official retirement system in the Kingdom (civilian, military, and social security) currently amounts to 694,000 retirees with an annual bill of about JD3.2 billion, which constitutes about 10 percent of the Kingdom's gross domestic product (GDP).

Dual salariesHowever, Sabihi noted that a significant percentage of social security retirees receive both civilian or military retirement salaries, meaning they receive both social security retirement pay and either civilian or military retirement pay.

He explained that he does not have statistics on their exact number, especially those who retired from civilian or military service and then returned to work in the private sector and fulfilled the conditions for receiving retirement pay or benefits from the social security system, most of whom are military retirees.
