AMMAN — The Minister of Health Firas Al-Hawari, launched on Thursday the first plan to respond to public health emergencies at the following border crossings: Al Mudawara, King Hussein Bridge, and the Passenger Terminal – Aqaba Port, in cooperation with the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and related authorities, according to Jordan News Agency, Petra.اضافة اعلان

Hawari said that the Ministry of Health has plans to develop the border crossings through specialized teams, and to set a comprehensive plan for emergency response by holding several meetings with the concerned authorities along with the IOM.

He said that the role of border crossings is important in preventing the spread of epidemics and to raise and develop their readiness level to confront the COVID-19 pandemic or any pandemic in the future.

Tajma Kurt, IOM Jordan Chief of Mission, said that the public health emergency response plan comes with the coordination of multiple relevant authorities, as it aims to prevent the spread of infectious diseases into the Kingdom.

The project manager, Dr. Manal Ali, stressed that the plan should be designed for the operational environment and for the resources available at the border crossings. These resources include border crossing staff who specialize in public health, both medical and non-medical personnel, and include the Borders and Residence Department, General Intelligence, and transportation and ambulance services. So they may implement a public health emergency response plan when a public health event occurs.
