The Ministry of Water and Irrigation confirmed on Tuesday that securing water for citizens and for all uses in the Kingdom is a top national priority.

In a statement responding to recent discussions about purchasing additional quantities of water from the Israeli side, a source from the Ministry stated that the government, in order to safeguard the national interest, had already prepared and begun implementing alternative plans and scenarios since last year for all possibilities to ensure the continuity of supply.
The source emphasized that Jordan fully receives its national water rights as stipulated in the peace treaty. The source explained that the arrangements included a fast-track, urgent plan to maintain several wells and increase their productivity, as well as to equip and drill new wells in cooperation with the private sector. Furthermore, the plan utilizes unconventional sources, such as brackish wells, and intensifies enforcement campaigns against illegal violations on water sources, which has secured quantities that helped cover part of the drinking water deficit.
The source noted that the Ministry of Water and Irrigation is continuing its efforts, in cooperation with relevant authorities, to complete and finalize the financial closure procedures for the National Conveyance Project. The project will provide 300 million cubic meters annually to cover most needs and bridge the chronic water deficit, with implementation scheduled to begin immediately.
