AMMAN -The Senate will take all legal and constitutional measures against smear campaigns against Jordan's Parliament, its President, Faisal Fayez, said, voicing his rejection and condemnation of these practices, according to the Jordan News Agency, Petra.اضافة اعلان

Speaking at Senate's session on Thursday, Fayez referred to besmirches of the Parliament's role by some persons, "who are supposed to be the forefront defenders of Jordan's constitutional and national institutions".

Immunity granted by the Constitution to upper and lower chambers' members does not entail the right to offend Jordan's constitutional institutions, or defmae colleagues, Fayez pointed out.

In addition, he noted immunity aims to allow parliamentarians to exercise their oversight and legislative role "without pressure, accountability or fear."

The Parliament's chambers have the same legislative and oversight role, which are set by the Constitution, he said, adding that their goal is to serve the citizen and to protect the Kingdom's higher interests, in a way that achieves aspirations of His Majesty King Abdullah II and Jordanian people.

The Senate's work always stems from these principles, in line with the Constitution. The two chambers' relations are "complementary and coordination-driven", on various legislative and legal issues, according to Fayez.

In this regard, Fayez said senators and MPs have been "constantly striving to examine legislations realistically and objectively," in accordance with the constitutional powers granted to each chamber, to produce their final versions to achieve the desired goals.

This joint effort aims to keep pace with process of modernization and development of the Parliament's legislations and align with the reform that our country is witnessing in various areas and fields, he pointed out.
