AMMAN — The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates on Tuesday condemned the provocative “Flags March” carried out by far-right Israeli groups under the protection of Israeli authorities, along with acts of aggression against Palestinians in occupied East Jerusalem.اضافة اعلان

Ministry spokesperson Daif Allah Al-Fayez said in a statement that the Israeli authorities allowing “this racist provocative march, and occupation forces attacks on Jerusalemites and barring them from entering Jerusalem’s Old City goes against all the international and regional endeavors to deescalate violence.”

Fayez called on the Israeli occupation to stop such attacks and respect the historic status-quo in Jerusalem, noting that Israel is responsible for today’s escalation, according to the statement.

Thousands of Israeli far-right nationalists marched in a flag-waving procession through occupied East Jerusalem on Tuesday, an event that risked reigniting tensions with Palestinians and posed an early challenge to Israel's new government, AFP reported.

Last month, Israeli-Palestinian confrontations in occupied Jerusalem helped trigger 11 days of cross-border fighting between Israel and Gaza's ruling Hamas group.

On Tuesday, Israeli occupation forces in riot gear and on horseback cordoned off areas leading to the walled Old City's flashpoint Damascus Gate, clearing the area of Palestinians, according to AFP.
