AMMAN — According to a ministry statement released Saturday, Minister of Health Firas Hawari and top ministry officials have discussed the steps to treat and manage cystic fibrosis in the Kingdom.
The ministry said the steps included setting up a national registry for cystic fibrosis patients and establishing specialized clinics to treat and manage this disease and its complications.
The ministry indicated these steps will be initially implemented in the Prince Hamza Hospital and Princess Rahma Hospital to diagnose, treat, and follow these cases.
Cystic fibrosis (CF) is a genetic disorder that affects mostly the lungs but also the pancreas, liver, kidneys, and intestine. Long-term issues include difficulty breathing and coughing up mucus due to frequent lung infections.
