Gov’t to study feasibility of new airport, says transport minister

AMMAN — Minister of Public Works and Housing and Minister of Transport Ahmad Maher Abul Samen announced that one of the expected outcomes of the transportation strategy is to study the feasibility a new airport to complement the Queen Alia International Airport. اضافة اعلان

This study, he said, is as a result of the increase in demand for air transportation.

The strategy also includes investing, developing, and preparing the Marka Civil Airport to meet the requirements for licensing, according to AmmanNet.

During a meeting of the General Services Committee in the Council of Representatives, Abul Samen outlined the draft of the transportation sector's strategic plan for 2023–2027.

The plan includes the national vision and goals, strategies for adapting to change, and aims to make Jordan a transportation hub while improving services for citizens, reducing negative environmental impacts, reducing traffic congestion, and upgrading the transportation system and services.

Railway networkIn addition to the aviation sector, the minister emphasized the importance of establishing a national railway network and a smart transportation system to reduce road accidents and improve public transportation services.

However, he said, there are challenges facing the transportation sector, including limited financial resources, high investment costs, and the need for improved legislative and regulatory frameworks.

The minister emphasized that there is a need for a comprehensive and integrated transportation system, and a need to upgrade the infrastructure and technology used in the transportation sector.
