Dr. Sharkas emphasized that changes in climate are contributing to the emergence of new COVID-19 virus strains, following an extended period of COVID-19 vaccination efforts, Khaberni reported. He assured that there is no need for excessive worry regarding the Eris variant, as it has already been included in the monitoring lists by the World Health Organization (WHO).

Furthermore, he stressed the impossibility of preventing variant entry into any country, including the possibility of the Eris variant reaching Jordan. He strongly stated that relying solely on lockdowns and travel bans proves to be an ineffective approach.

Meanwhile, he urged the vigilant monitoring of cases involving acute respiratory infections and the implementation of genetic sequencing tests for COVID-19 cases. This specific test helps confirm the presence or absence of the new variant.
