Eddie Howe has stepped down from his position as manager of English football club Newcastle United after a five-year spell at St James' Park, according to reports by the BBC and Sky Sports on Thursday.

The 48-year-old manager took charge following Steve Bruce in November 2021, leading the team to win the EFL Cup (League Cup) in 2025, securing their first major trophy since 1969.
The former Bournemouth manager also guided Newcastle to qualify for the UEFA Champions League in both 2023 and 2025.
However, he came under pressure during the past season after the Magpies finished 12th in the English Premier League, suffering 17 defeats in 38 matches.
In recent weeks, the squad was further impacted by the departures of Italian midfielder Sandro Tonali to Tottenham Hotspur and English forward Anthony Gordon to Spanish giants FC Barcelona.
Speculation also continues to surround the future of team captain, Brazilian midfielder Bruno Guimarães.
Howe's final match at the helm of Newcastle ended in a heavy 4–1 defeat on Wednesday against Bristol City, a side competing in the EFL Championship (England's second division), during a pre-season friendly.
