A Russian attack killed at least four people in Kyiv and the surrounding region, Ukrainian authorities said early Tuesday.
The Kyiv City Military Administration reported on Telegram that three people were killed and five others injured “in an enemy attack on the capital,” without providing further details.
The military administration of the Kyiv region had earlier reported one death in Boryspil, east of Kyiv.
Regional military administration chief Tymur Tkachenko said on Telegram that the Kyiv region had come under a “large-scale Russian attack” overnight involving missiles and combat drones targeting civilian infrastructure.
In the capital, a strike damaged a five-story residential building, injuring eight people, including a child.
Earlier, AFP journalists heard around 10 powerful explosions in quick succession and saw flashes lighting up the sky after an alert was issued warning of a ballistic missile attack on the Ukrainian capital.
Ukraine’s Air Force had earlier warned on Telegram that “the threat of ballistic weapons and other means of attack against Kyiv and its region remains,” urging residents to remain in shelters until the alert was lifted.
Ukraine is facing shortages of interceptor missiles, particularly U.S.-made Patriot missiles, which have become scarcer since the outbreak of the war in the Middle East.
