Speaking to the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA), Al-Housari said the plan involves converting Al-Mazzeh Military Airport into a civilian airport dedicated to private and business aviation.

He explained that the project is part of an integrated developmental vision aimed at diversifying aviation services in Syria, easing operational pressure on Damascus International Airport, and creating a specialized investment and commercial hub.

According to Al-Housari, the Al-Mazzeh Airport project is included in long-term feasibility studies designed to serve the Greater Damascus area and central Syria, aligning with a vision that balances economic, environmental, and social considerations.

The conversion project aims to establish a comprehensive center for private aviation that accommodates executive jets and modern electric aircraft, in addition to auxiliary facilities. It will be part of a broader initiative called the Aviation Community, which will include hotels, business centers, aviation training institutes, maintenance centers, and residential and commercial complexes surrounding the airport.

The broader vision also includes the development and expansion of Damascus and Aleppo airports as national priorities, along with the modernization of other airports, construction of new ones, refurbishment of current aircraft, gradual expansion of the national fleet, and support for the establishment of private national airlines.

The Civil Aviation Authority is working on implementing a comprehensive vision to rehabilitate the existing infrastructure and reposition Syria as a central player in regional and international air traffic. This is based on a strategic plan extending to the year 2030.

The strategy focuses on rebuilding airport infrastructure, enhancing air connectivity, reopening airspace, modernizing the national fleet and air transport services, overhauling air navigation and communication systems, and fostering regional and international partnerships.
